How does the Swing Maxi™ Hands-free breast pump work?

The Swing Maxi™ Hands-free double electric pump provides you with an intuitive superior pumping experience. This compact yet powerful pump has 9 adjustable vacuum levels, keeping you pumping in comfort. With Medela's trusted 2-Phase Expression™ technology it mimics babies' natural sucking rhythm - faster at first to stimulate milk flow, then slower to feed - for comfortable and efficient pumping.

Vacuum is applied to the breast by means of a tubing connection to the pump. The air flow between the pump and the hands-free cups generate a vacuum that is applied to the breasts for milk expression. The milk is then collected within the cups and once pumping is finished the expressed milk can be poured from the cups into a bottle or storage bag.

The Hands-free Collection Cups are not intended to be used for milk storage.

Do you have to be sitting or can you be more active?

The Swing Maxi™ Hands-free is great for relaxing back and taking a moment, and also for those times when you have to be on-the-go. Whether you choose to use your hands-free pump while sitting, walking around, or tending to your baby, Swing Maxi™ Hands-free allows you both options.

It is good to note as with all pumps, the milk collection cups are not designed to be used when leaning over completely or during exercise as there is an opening (pouring spout) at the top of the cups through which milk could spill out.

Can I use the Swing Maxi™ Hands-free double electric breast pump as a single?

Yes, the Swing Maxi™ Hands-free double electric breast pump can be used as a single pump. Simply assemble one collection cup ready for pumping and then insert the unused tubing end into the Y-shaped tubing holder. This shuts off the vacuum to one side of the pump and allows for easy single pumping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, quality hands free breastpump [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had a great pump already but it was a wall plug machine and initially that was fine but after shifting to exclusively pumping a few weeks back it’s just not really feasible to be anchored to one spot with a newborn. This hands free pump has been a game changer! I enjoy that it’s compact but still has a strong enough suction to give the same output as my other pump - especially since I’d heard that handsfree pumps don’t work as well as wall plug ones.. that’s not the case here. They’ve cleverly made it with minimal parts so cleaning and sterilizing is a breeze rather than a chore. It’s got a bunch of options for modes and speeds which is exactly what you want so you can ensure you’re pumping effectively and without causing damage. A reputable brand and a reputable product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this pump [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Such a good investment, I’ve had cheaper pumps in the past but they just don’t work as good. I love with this pump you have freedom to move, but the pump motor isn’t weak like other cordless pumps I’ve used in the past. This pump has great power and suction behind it and the different modes work well to help get the milk out. It’s super easy to set up and pull apart for cleaning and easy to switch between using as a single or double pump. It’s awesome that it comes with the 2 flanges sizes, most other pumps you have to purchase additional flanges separately. I was able to get about 40ml of extra milk out compared to my previous pump I was using. I definitely recommend this pump!

It’s very convenient when you’re doing some house chores while pumping plus the lanyard is very helpful. These are very lightweight and practical. Is easy to clean and the battery life after the first week of use is been great. Hopefully stays the same. Love the strap to carry it around. Would recommend to mums groups for sure.

Having one less thing to hold, let alone a compact, great suction pump that’s hands free is the best gift/purchase for a pumping mum. The freedom of not being connected to plugs or having anything huge hanging from your chest so you can still hold and tend to your baby whilst pumping is absolutely incredible and you simply cannot put a price on this type of convenience. The fact that it also is able to pump like my medical grade pump is such a plus. Highly recommend to all pumping mums.

It’s compact and light enough to not feel bulky. The collection cups were a good size fit for me. The collection cups were easy to disassemble, wash and put back together. The design is with minimal numbers of pieces which is great because it is less to keep track of. Pouring of the collected milk can be a little clumsy but it’s not too bad overall.

There are no big bottles to connect and I can even make dinner or bath my little one with them in, making pumping a breeze. The pumps are a little noisy on the highest setting but I only pump for 10 minutes so it's not a big deal. Another thing to watch for is making sure the pump pieces are connected together properly. I made the mistake of not checking I had put the two pieces together properly and it leaked milk everywhere. That was my own fault but just something to watch for, making sure you hear the click and checking that the pieces are sealed. A great thing about this pump is that it connects to the medela app and you can track your pumps. The pump doesn't have a screen or timer so the app is useful for seeing how long you are pumping for. Overall I would recommend this pump for the hands free aspect and usb charging.

Pros: -strong pump, I got similar outputs to my "hospital grade" pump in only a few minutes longer - easy to fit and line up - easy to see output while wearing Cons: -not very subtle! The cups are big, the running is hard to hide under clothes and it's loud -the pump unit is too big for most pockets, and even if you cram it in it's easy to accidentally turn it off while putting it in. Overall a great all-rounder if you want something hands free for around the house. But if you want something you could wear at work etc there might not be for you

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a mum of three, I’ve tried many pumps over the years, and after two weeks with the Medela Swing Maxi Hands-Free Double Pump, it’s quickly become a favourite. The cups are super lightweight and comfortable, with only three parts to clean (dishwasher safe!). The suction is fantastic, better than any pump I’ve used, and my milk output has noticeably increased. The battery lasts ages, and switching between single and double pumping is easy. The tubes can be frustrating as they get in the way, and the pump is a bit bulky, needing a lanyard. While there’s no built-in timer, the app integration is brilliant—it tracks everything, making up for the lack of on-device display. Despite the tubes, this is a reliable and efficient pump that delivers great results, making it worth the investment for busy mums.

Not bulky like the other pumps as they can get in the way. Fits in the bra perfectly and no need to wear a seperate bustier to use the pump or hold the pump in the hands. However might be priced a bit too high is my thoughts. Overall happy with the product and easy cleaning. Once pumped it’s easy to transfer the milk in to a storage bottle/bag. With the design of the collector, if someone blindly keeps the collector down the milk can spill due to the round shape but that’s all.

For those who are over supplier’s definitely not for you, the only downfall is it can’t connect to a bottle so you have to tip it into bags/bottles which is a risk for spillage. But it is so handy for working mums and busy mums on the go! It’s very compact so you can bring it while your put!

Really convenient as the cups fit really comfortably in bra and the neck strap made it really portable. It’s pretty quiet and the different pump modes made it easy to work out which was best for me.
