General Information

Give fine, thin hair an instant plumping boost for hair that looks and feels thicker, fuller and stronger in just one use. This thickening shampoo is infused with Biotin, known to provide hair with strength, and, Hyaluronic Acid, known to hydrate hair. It helps reduce hair loss due to breakage. Paraben and Silicone-free formula is also cruelty-free and vegan friendly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Some Volume Boost Plus Heat Protection [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was lucky to be on the trial team for John Frieda PROfiller+ Thickening Shampoo, Conditioner & Spray, & have used the range exclusively for the fortnight's duration of this trial. This clear thickening spray has a waterlike consistency, with a fresh scent that is similar but milder than the matching shampoo & conditioner. Using the three products in conjunction has a cumulative effect to boost volume, but I found the increase was not dramatic. This spray was my favourite product in the range; however, volume powders provide greater oomph, albeit without the benefit of strengthening the hair. This spray is also a heat protectant. The instructions recommend blow-drying to maximise volume, but I seldom heat style & habitually use my microfibre towel before air-drying. When I squirted too much at the roots it made my oily hair grease up more quickly. The range is supposed to increase the look & feel of hair, & to strengthen it to prevent breakage. PROfiller+ makes no claims of stimulating new growth. I suffer from excessive hair shedding due to thyroid disease, & at 57, surely ageing contributes to my thinner hair. I don't experience a lot of hair breakage. WOULD I PURCHASE? Possibly on sale - it will depend on how long the bottle lasts. Made in Germany. This clear gel shampoo has a fresh, pleasant scent. It has kept my oily hair shiny & clean, as do most clear gel shampoos; but I have only experienced a modest boost in volume. Using all three products together worked better than just the shampoo & conditioner, but I've had more impressive results from other (cheaper) volumising shampoos, e.g. L'Oréal Elvive Fibralogy. Perhaps longer use would show more improvement? The range is supposed to increase the look & feel of hair, & to strengthen it to prevent breakage. PROfiller+ makes no claims of stimulating new growth. I suffer from excessive hair shedding due to thyroid disease, & at 57, surely ageing contributes to my thinner hair. I don't experience a lot of hair breakage. WOULD I PURCHASE? I'm undecided. It depends on whether my hair feels noticeably stronger when I finish the tube. If so, only when on sale. Made in Germany. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for Volume [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This thickening spray works very well for adding lots of volume and increasing thickness of your hair. My hair was left with tonnes of volume and looked twice as thick. It smells good but not overpowering. Unfortunately it left my hair feeling coarse and looking very dull. I tried using it with a hairdryer and without but had the same dull and brittle results. If you’re looking for an effective hair product to make your hair appear much thicker and like you have more density then this is a great product for you.

It thickens the hair to double the density in appearance. It has a pleasant fragrance that doesn’t overpower once your hair is dry so it won’t interfere with your perfume or lotions after. Unfortunately that’s where it stopped for my hair. After each use my hair was brittle, coarse, dull and didn’t feel soft. After a few uses I noticed quite a lot of my hair, especially around the hairline, had broken off and left strands brittle and standing upright (like spiked) which has been very upsetting. Sadly I don’t think this shampoo worked for my hair type which is very fine. I definitely think this shampoo did what it says it will do and if you’re after a volume boosting thickening shampoo this one works very well for that. I think for some hair types they will be very happy with the results of this product but unfortunately my hair is too delicate for it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only for really fine hair [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have slightly courser Asian hair so I felt like the Profiller shampoo weighed it down too much. I have thinning, not thin hair so the extra weight made me feel more self conscious about fallout. If you didn't have my issue and just had fine hair, I think it would serve its thickening purpose. Another negative was that it made my dandruff return. However, the overall feel, smell and ability to lather was nice. I personally wouldn't purchase because of the scalp dryness I experienced but this could just be me.

While I liked the other products in the range, unfortunately this shampoo was extremely drying to my fine hair, and after using it I was left with noticeably frizzy hair at my roots. I would definitely repurchase the conditioner & styling spray in this range, however I think they would be best used in conjunction with a different shampoo. Overall, I would recommend this range but not this product in particular, as the target audience of those with fine and thin hair will find it very drying.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Volumising but a bit dry [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This shampoo and conditioner range made my hair stiff after washing it. I was looking for something that is hydrating but also thickening. This definetly made my roots feel a bit thicker but I feel it lacks a hydrating component. I feel that it made my ends dry and very stiff to brush out. Overall, it is an average product and I did see some results after using it for two weeks. However, I do have bleached hair so my hair needed something hydrating as well after the two weeks. The spray smelt lovely and I liked how it was easy to spray onto my hair. I have discovered that spraying the product onto my hands and running the product through using my fingers has helped my hair to become less tangled. Overall the thickening effect lasted for around 3 days until my hair started to become oily.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It thickens (I think) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The bottle is easy to use and easy to open in the shower (you'd be surprised at how many are difficult to open with wet hands). The smell is strong, not unpleasant or pleasant, just really unexpected. I got used to it but I would rather it was less "scented". After the first use, I found my hair feeling...thicker? I'm not sure if it was thicker but it was harder for me to run my fingers through. After shampooing, my hair did feel thicker but I hoped that the conditioner would tame it a bit as well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works but sticky [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I style my hair with hot tools, I’m looking for ways to add volume to my hair and for it to look and feel fuller. I have coloured hair which is still recovering so I have to be mindful when styling. I used this to add volume to hair without my using tools and while it did add thickness, it has a sticky residue and weighed my hair down. I don‘t think I’d use it on its own again. The stickiness didn’t bother my as much after styling. As a heat protectant it seemed to worked okay. I think I’ll stick to my normal heat protectant but I would use this in a pickle.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not sure this does much [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] There wasn't an overpowering smell to the spray, which is good :) I used the shampoo and conditioner, and this was the last step. On my first use, I forgot to use the spray, so I only did step 1 and 2 and found my hair to be more tangled and harder to comb. On my second time around and I remembered to use the spray afterwards. It didn't do anything magical - it didn't make my hair easier to comb, or more manageable. I am not sure that the spray does anything. It might be better to be use as a standalone product (with a normal shampoo and conditioner) - you might see some difference.
