What is retinol?
Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that helps stimulate skin cell turnover, which decreases with age. Retinol can refine and resurface the skin to improve the appearance of wrinkles, texture, and uneven tone.

How to use retinol?
Pure Retinol is a potent ingredient, your skin will need time to adjust. Introduce gradually. Week 1: Apply Pure Retinol 2 nights a week before Hydra Genius. Week 2: use every other night. Week 3: use nightly as tolerated. Follow with SPF in AM.

It has a concentrated formula and works well to instantly leave my skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated. The serum comes in a 30ml frosted dark blue glass bottle and also has a glass dropper to dispense the serum. It has a light milky texture that instantly absorbs into my skin. The fragrance is a little strong, although it’s a pleasant floral scent. This serum helps smooth out my dehydration lines as soon as I apply it and creates a great, smooth base for my night cream. It doesn’t feel heavy or sticky and has the perfect texture. I have been using this serum every night for a few weeks now and my skin definitely looks and feels smoother. I apply about 3 drops to my face as the serum is quite concentrated. It helps plump up fine lines and gently exfoliates my skin to give me a healthy glow. I haven’t experienced any irritation so far, and as per the instructions on the packaging I use sunscreen every morning. Overall this is a moisturising and hydrating serum that helps reveal smoother, healthier skin even after only a few weeks of use.

On first impression I loved the look of the packaging which looked luxurious, and I found the instructions were clear and easy read. On opening the dark blue opaque glass dropper bottle it continued to impress. The dropper was easy to use and a great measurement tool so you knew you were getting the correct amount. I carefully followed the instructions and slowly introduced the product as recommended. Week 1: 2 nights a week, Week2: every other night Week 3 :nightly as tolerated. I found that the recommended instructions easing me into the retinol program worked well for me with no tingling or dryness until the end of week 3. It was minimal so I have continued daily application. The Pure Retinol deep wrinkle night serum I felt had a strong but pleasant smell (I suffer from chronic hay fever and this serum unusually did not set me off!) it has a smooth light feel on application and the best bit is it has started to decrease the depth of lines around my mouth and made my skin look smoother. I can’t wait to see what more it will do by the time I finish the bottle.

Part of me wanted to skip the recommendations to ease your way into using this product as I have used retinol before on my skin quite regularly. I tell you what- I am glad I didn’t! I slowly eased my way into building up my use of this product and I am not able to use it more than twice a week. My skin is sensitive and when I got to the point of using it every other day, I noticed my skin drying, flaking and stinging. I eased back out to using it once every 3-4 nights per week and I love this product at this frequency. I have noticed an evening of my skin tone, a reduction in size of my hyper-pigmentation spots, I have noticed a reduction in the appearance of my forehead wrinkles and a smoothing of the texture of my skin. If you’re not a fan of fragrances you won’t like this product. But I quite like the fragrance scent of this serum. It is pleasant and not at all “chemically”- which you can get with other retinol products. I will continue to use this product.

The first week, my skin was reacting to it, as in it became a bit oily. But it settled quickly, leaving my skin feeling hydrated. After using L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser X3 Pure Retinol Night Serum for about 3 weeks, I am noticing that my skin is starting to smooth and uneven skin texture. My skin is less dry and the pores less noticeable. The serum smooths on easily and the use has shown a markable improvement in my skin hydration. The fragrance is quite pleasant. As I am sensitive to strong smells, the fragrance of the serum did not impact me at all. The packaging is well thought of and will prevent wasteage.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been using the L’Oréal Paris Revital Laser X3 Pure Retinol serum at night as part of my daily skin routine. My skin has no issue with using retinol-based products and it did not cause any irritation. It does recommend you to start slow and build up usage over a period of time just so your skin gets used to it. The serum comes in a dropper bottle and is scented, light and milky. The fragrance didn’t bother me too much as it is quickly absorbed. This product is pure retinol and after using it for a few weeks, my fine lines have reduced, skin tone is more even and also helps reduce congestion around the chin area. Very happy with the results and love how it is not a harsh form of retinol so it doesn’t cause any irritation and can be incorporated into my nightly skin routine easily.

I have sensitive skin and can be wary of retinol but this one did not irritate. For those who have not used retinol before ease into it gently. After using this product for a while my fine lines were much less visible, so were my pores and dark pigmentation spots from ageing which was great. The handy dropper dispenser is quite easy to use, no mess and quite hygienic. I didn’t need to use a lot so it lasts for ages. I love this product as it visibly diminishes fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful appearance

It contains a strong retinol, with hydrating factors and very light weight oils to hydrate and seal in the moisture. Retinol can be a greatly sensitising ingredient and the other ingredients included prove to soothe and support the lipid mantle of the skin. If you have before included a retinol in your skincare routine, it is important to follow the application directions on the box. Retinol can be a tricky skincare ingredient and most people’s will need time to get used to this powerful ingredient. The directions recommend to introduce it gradually. It is normal to experience some initial redness, tingling or dryness while using Retinol, which is why the gradual introduction routine is needed. Apply 3-4 drops to clean, dry skin in the evening before a hydrating moisturiser. It’s best not to use in daytime as retinol sensitises the skin, which makes it more susceptible to sun burn and damage. Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 the morning after to protect from this damage. In the first week the directions are to use 2 nights per week. In the second week, Use every other night. In the third week use nightly as tolerated. It is important to monitor your skin condition during this introduction period. If peeling, extreme redness and/or extreme sensitivity occur, scale back the use. If needed you can extend the introduction routine time frame to however long necessary to minimise the skins sensitisation.

My first impressions were that the packaging appeared very weighty, luxurious and appealing to the eye. It comes in a dropper bottle and the dropper works very well at dispensing the product. The instructions say to build up your usage of this product, as it is a retinol serum. As my skin was used to retinol products, I began using this every second night and continue to do so. The product has a light, milky, opaque texture. It appears to be heavily scented. Although I appreciate a pleasant scent in my skincare, this scent was stronger than most, and was a bit off-putting. In terms of product efficacy, I’m really happy with it so far and will continue to use it. I would consider repurchasing this product also.

Around my nose it seems to be quite red and dry. The smell of it is quite pleasant not like many formulas these days that smell quite chemically. You don't need to use much which would make the product last quite a while so it would be value for money. I will continue to use to see if my skin calms down over the next few weeks. I would recommend for people to try and see how their skin reacts :)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was slightly hesitant to use the L'oreal Paris Revitalift Laser X3 Pure retinol Night Serum as I have very sensitive skin and have had some skin irritation in the past when using other products with retinol. This product by L’oreal has a strong fragrant scent that some users might find a bit too strong, I didn’t mind it though. The serum absorbed instantly into my skin with minimal irritation. After following the instructions very carefully, including applying the serum twice in Week One, every second night in Week 2 and nightly during Week 3, I have noticed that my skin feels smoother and the lines and wrinkles around my eyes seem slightly more refined. It’ll be ‘Goodbye Crow’s Feet!’ if I keep this routine up!

The consistency is a lovely thin and milky viscosity. However, when you first take the dropper out, there is a strong parfum fragrance but it does not linger once applied to the face. Not everyone will pick up on the fragrance but the formulation does contain fragrance as the last ingredient. This is personally a con for me as I think it is unnecessary and has no business being in a retinol formulation other than potentially acting as an irritant trigger for those who are sensitive to parfum. I have otherwise had good results from consistent use of this serum. I did initially purge a bit in the first week but after week two, the texture of my skin is noticeably a lot more even, although it has not (yet) smoothed out my frown line. I have experienced very mild peeling in thinner parts of my face and also mild skin sensitivity, but you can counter this by buffering the effects by mixing the serum with a moisturiser. I recommend mixing it with a moisturiser with high ceramide content. Bearing in mind the hefty price tag, this serum is still worth experiencing. The total quantity is 30ml but you only need 1-2 drops each time so it is likely to last you at least 1-3 months. I would certainly recommend this serum, particularly for those who are new to retinol or are in the mid-range between novice and experienced with retinols in pure forms.

I started slowly as I have used retinol before that has irritated my skin. It does have a slight tingle when you first use but once your skin gets used to it you do not feel it anymore. My skin reacted really well so it was not long before I was using every night. I can already see my skin texture has improved and my pigmentation does not seem as dark. The texture was nice on my skin. The only thing I did not like was the smell. Its not over powering but I am quite sensitive to smells so it may not bother others.

Following the instructions carefully, I used it twice a week in the first week, then every second night the following week. I've now used this serum on 15 separate occasions. It did tingle slightly the first night but nothing for me to worry about. I should add, that I'm a very mature woman with very sensitive skin. So after cleansing I put moisturiser around my eyes first, then applied the Serum. I have noticed a subtle improvement in my skin texture, more refined pores and my forehead wrinkles seem to be softening. In the mornings I apply my SPF 15+ Foundation and finishing powder for protection as the Retinol in the serum causes Sun sensitivity. I'll continue to use this serum because I do believe it makes a positive difference albeit quite slowly, in my case.

Later that night after I had showered and cleansed my face I re-read the instructions for the serum then went to apply it. Week 1: use 2 night per week Week 2: use every other night Week 3: use nightly as tolerated The little bottle is dark and you can't see through it so I unscrewed the dropped and it was already loaded. It isn't self loading though but it was full ready to go for my first use. The serum itself is white and I had a smiff and it has quite a strong perfumy scent to it. The instructions say to apply 3-4 drops and I squeezed the dropper onto my opposition hands fingertips 3 times and that was all that was in the dropper so it holds the correct amount your supposed to use for each application. I then rubbed both sets of fingertips together and applied it to my face avoiding the eye and mouth area. It didn't make my face shiny and wet looking but it did leave my face slight tacky. But not sticky. It didn't sting my face and it didn't itch or burn either. After about 5 minutes I did have a little bit of tingling around my mouth area but that went away within a few minutes. I then went about doing other thing I usually do around the house and checked in to look at my skin around 30 minutes later and it looked fine. Wasn't red at all. Wasn't itchy and I had zero irritation. It did look a tiny bit shiny but my skin does tend to be a little bit shiny when I try new products. That's just me. I've always been like that. I then applied my moisturiser. I just wanted to wait 30 minutes after applying the serum to see what my skin looked like and how it absorbed and felt on my skin before I applied my moisturiser so I could get a good judgement. After using this product 3 times my nose did start peeling on the sides of the nostrils but it wasn't bad and went away after a few days. I haven't had any peeling since and I also haven't had any tingling since my first application. I am now at the stage where I'm applying the retinol nightly and making sure I wear SPF the next morning. I do have 2 lines/wrinkles on my forehead. The line that is closest to my hair line looks less deep on the right side. The texture of my skin is more even and looks clearer. I cannot wait to continue testing this serum and see my end results after using the entire bottle because I already have some results after 3 weeks. Product has to be used within 6 months from opening and is made in Germany.

Received the Loreal Paris Revitalift Laser X3 Pure retinol Night Serum as a sample to try and I am amazed on how easily i was able to introduce into my skincare routine without any reactions. I use it every alternate night and can see the change in my skin texture. It is very gentle retinol to start introducing retinol into my skin care routine. I have used another brand in the past dut didnt see any noticable change, Loreal worked its magic. It is very gentle and has a nice scent. It is moisturising and soothing. It gets absorbed instantly into the skin. Definately recommend this to anyone who would like to get rid of fine lines and age gracefully.

I don’t have sensitive skin usually, but retinol has been really tricky for me in the past due to dryness and itching. Having a skin type that is prone to dryness, retinol really exacerbates that so I always end up having to stop using it before I can really notice much benefit. This particular retinol serum has been pretty good for me so far. First application I noticed a bit of itch so I’ve been proceeding cautiously, using twice a week. I have another retinol serum that I’ve been using nightly and it’s my HG retinol serum because it never causes ANY problems for my skin. But it’s also a lower concentration of retinol, so I feel like incorporating this L’Oreal serum a couple of times a week is boosting my retinol game without overdoing it. So the initial itch I felt that first night was tolerable and it was pretty much a one off. I’ve not experienced any itch since. On the two nights a week when I use this serum, the following morning I do feel a slight “tight” feeling after I wash my face - basically a, “Hurry up and get some moisture going here!”, kind of thing. But I’ve not experienced any redness or peeling, which is fantastic. Using this serum twice a week alternating with my other retinol product works well for me. I’m about halfway through my current serum, so I might look use this L’Oreal serum more frequently to gradually transition to using this one nightly when my other serum is finished. The thing I love about this serum is the accessibility. Rather than having to wait for an online order to arrive, you can just go pick L’Oreal up from just about anywhere. It’s really convenient.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Christina M. from Beginner friendly gentle retinal product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] L'oreal skincare has always been one of my 'go to' brand when I shop for pharmacy skincare, and so far I only have one issue with most of their products - they always seem to be heavily fragranced. Unfortunately, this product is one of them, perhaps not the most fragranced product, but definitely excessive for a face serum. Due to suffering from hormonal acne, I have used a few retinol serums over the years, from The Ordinary Retinoid Emulsion 2% to Retrieve (Tretinoin, which you can only get from a doctor's prescription). This product has a very good consistency, does not peel/ball up when using with other products (I use Lancome Genifique before this, follow with oil after); it's neither oily nor dry for my combination skin. It's very gentle, I have experienced no redness, dryness, or any other discomfort from it (I have followed the instruction on the box to gradually increase the frequency of use from twice a week in week 1 to daily use after week 2). This is a beginner-friendly retinal serum, so if you are new to retinol products, this is a good start. It's still early days for me to see many visible impovements, but I can say so far, apart from the issue with fragrance, I'm happy with it. Just hoping L'oreal would reduce the amount of fragrance in their products, and perhaps fragrance-free versions of popular products. I would purchase a lot more products from the brand if this issue can be resolved.

My friend commented about my shrinking pores and the overall glowing effect. I had a tiny bit of redness reaction to it but I am not complaining at all. It made me look as if I was wearing a makeup blush. All my friends thought that I was actually in love as I have that glow the lovers emit. The side effects that I am experiencing are nothing to me. I can feel some stinging but not disruptive enough to take notice of. The redness turns out to be a positive effect on me. I have used retinol products before but they were more harsh on my face. I developed inflammation and flakiness. L’Oréal used the right combination of ingredients that kept the brutal exfoliation and swelling at bay. I also have a particular fondness of the fragrance. It reminds me of my childhood. I used to discreetly apply facial creams of my aunties on me. The smell is resembling to it. Fast forward to 2018, I used a high end retinol serum and the smell was horrible. As if I was applying a dead fish on my face! I wasn’t able to finish the whole bottle because the odour was repugnant! In a nutshell, I really like this product. It has created so far more positive results on me compared to even the super expensive serums that I have tried before. Thanks L’Oréal.

It did make my skin feel nice and hydrated, although left a firm film on my face which i didnt particularly like. I did however hate the packaging, the pipette was terrible and inconsistent to grab product.

The smell is very uplifting and the vitamin C definitely brightens my skin. The night serum is thick enough to feel like good coverage of moisture without being too heavy and smearing all over the pillow. Waking up still feeling moisturised and feeling fuller in the face

I did get some dryness after a couple weeks but that cleared up. I’m not sure how much this costs, but I wouldn’t be rushing out to buy it

Rated 3 out of 5 by Pattie236 from Moisturising but didn’t reduce wrinkles [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product was pleasant overall - when using it at night it left my skin feeling moisturised and smoothe and the scent was subtle enough that it didn’t annoy me but strong enough that i felt like I was pampering myself. I don’t think that it smoothed or plumped out any of my lines or wrinkles though, so it didn’t really do as promised.

Its not a product I would spend money on. I think possibly it needs to go back to the scientists to work on a better product that achieves visible results.

Together they work well and made improvements that were noticeable on my face within the first week of my trial. The only thing I found was that I needed an extra moisturiser used on my face in the morning after I'd use it. My face was beginning to feel more dry then it would usually had been. Great products tho and it was a pleasure to had got to trial these products.

I was able to wear this product daily/ nightly. I did not experience any tingling redness or dryness as suggested which was pretty disappointing. I loved the glass dropper. I was surprised how well the product absorbed quickly and was non greasy on my skin. I have normal skin. I don’t think the retinol is strong enough for my aged skin. I would probably recommend this product to someone much younger in their 30’s . In terms of hydration fantastic product .

Having not used the product for long, I can say so far I can see a small improvement in my skin & wrinkles. I am hoping with a few more months of continued use, I will see further results. I love the blue glass bottle & the dropper preserves the product & makes it easy to apply. It has a pleasant almost floral smell & a divine milky like consistency which I love. It felt quite moisturising & absorbed quickly with no sticky feel which it great for time poor people like me! I haven't experienced any tingling, redness or dryness after using for a few weeks and I have skin that is normal/combination. Really can't go wrong with a decent strength Retinol product that also contains Hyaluronic Acid. Well done L'Oreal!
