What is retinol?
Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that helps stimulate skin cell turnover, which decreases with age. Retinol can refine and resurface the skin to improve the appearance of wrinkles, texture, and uneven tone. 

How to use retinol?
Pure Retinol is a potent ingredient, your skin will need time to adjust. Introduce gradually. Week 1: Apply Pure Retinol 2 nights a week before Hydra Genius. Week 2: use every other night. Week 3: use nightly as tolerated. Follow with SPF in AM.

Can Retinol be used by all skin types or ages?
Retinol can be used by all skin types and ages. Retinol use in your 20's and 30's is important for preventing early signs of aging. In your 40's and 50's Retinol will continue to work on cell turnover, and wrinkles, including deep one.

How long does Retinol take to work?

Directions

"Your skin will need time to get used to Retinol. It is recommended to introduce gradually. Apply 3-4 drops to clean, dry skin in the evening before Revitalift Laser Night Moisturiser. Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 the morning after.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Retinol Serum [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this serum 1-2x/wk on my normal-dry skin. I don’t have deep wrinkles so cannot say overly if it made a difference to my good-condition skin, however I have used other retinol products in the past and this is superior. A competitor’s serum is an oily yellow fluid which can leave a mark on your clothing and bed linen after nightly application. But I like the creamy white consistency of the L’Oréal serum and how it penetrates into your skin and moisturises - doesn’t feel drying which retinol products tend to be! I don’t like the fragrance of it and would prefer it to be fragrance free. Also would prefer a pump serum as I don’t like pipette applicators, they are fiddly and messy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A very strongly scented retinol serum [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My key skincare concerns are pigmentation, breakouts and acne scarring, and the one skincare ingredient that seems to work efficiently on all - without causing further breakouts, is retinol - so I was excited to try this L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser X3 Pure Retinol Night Serum to the test. It claims to contain a potent concentration serum of pure retinol, with 0.2% pure retinol, and the packaging gives clear advice on how to use to get the skin used to it to minimise irritation. Often drugstore brands, or even more luxe department store brands, do not mention % strength of ingredients, so the mere mention if the 0.2% concentration is a bonus, and great for consumers so you actually know what you are purchasing. Now I have used retinol and retinals for a long time, incl highest straight via script - a fair bit stronger than this one, so I jumped right in to use nightly, and without any issues. The actual serum has a light, milky, opaque texture and absorbs quickly without greasiness, but instantly leaving the skin feeling silky soft and smooth. It is advised to follow with the L’Oréal Laser Night Moisturiser, but I followed with my usual night cream from another brand. After a few days of using - I started missing the effects of my usual higher strength retinol serum - so I switched back to using that one, and using this L’Oreal one on my decollate instead, where I’ve been usable to use the higher strength one due to irritations. My decollate has not tolerated the higher strength one bears signs of ageing, with lines, wrinkles and pigmentation. And while I didn’t see any effects on my face, after a few days, after a week or so, I did notice the skin appearing more soft and supple. I am yet to notice any major improvements in both lines and wrinkles as well as pigmentation, but overall, the skin is clearly looking more healthy, so overall I am quite happy with it and will continue to use, and hope to see further results as time goes by. It comes in a heavy duty glass bottle, with a dropper that makes it super easy to dispose just the amount of product needed without any wastage. My only negative about this serum is the fragrance - personally I love the sensory experience of beautifully scented products, but unfortunately, while smelling nice, I find this one to be a tad too strongly scented, and that is very rare for me to say something it too strongly scented. Yes, it does fade a bit after applying it, but the scent still lingers on the skin for quite some time, to the point of my scent-sensitive husband commenting in bed at night, that it was ‘twitching his nose’! Overall, this is a lovely serum, with a lovely texture and feel, and it would be perfect for those who are either just starting out their retinol journey, or have more sensitive skin. I have so many favourites from the L’Oréal range, and love how accessible they are, and that they are often available at great prices too. Again, my face is used to a higher strength retinol, but I’ve quite enjoyed using it on my decollate, and if it wasn’t for the strong fragrance, I’d without a doubt consider purchasing again. Please L’Oréal, consider introducing more subtly fragranced or even fragrance-free alternatives!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fragrance is an issue for Sensitive Skin [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] L’Oréal Revitalift Laser Pure Retinol Night Serum a light, milky serum that is applied with a dropper which takes a bit of adjustment to ensure you don’t dispense too much. The fragrance is overwhelming and I was reluctant to apply overall to my sensitive facial or décolletage skin. I am puzzled by the inclusion of fragrance in a product which seems to otherwise have a good formulation and a significant percentage of active retinol. I applied following the protocol to a small section to test the effects on a hyper-pigmented area and a white scar patch. The non-pigmented white area showed remarkable fading and smoothing within 2-weeks. There was almost no discernible difference to the hyper-pigmented spots. If L’Oréal releases a version without fragrance, then this would be a good entry level choice to acclimate skin prior to stepping up into prescription tretinoin.

The serum went on easily and spread well. However, my skin did not enjoy this product. I have been a frequent retinol user and thought my skin would be fine but even with gradual, infrequent use my skin stung and peeled. I had to stop using it due to this a red inflammation. I have never had this happen before and do not consider myself to have sensitive skin.

Packaging is neat, the dropper easy to use, the consistency isn't sticky or tacky , however for my skin it dried it out, it was lovely going on and applying but when it dried it felt tight and not moisturised then the next morning my skin would be super dry on my cheeks and flakey. I'm not sure if it was just my skins reaction to retinol, or an ingredient in it, so unfortunately for me I wouldn't purchase this again, however It is probably fine for others.

Because I'm not new to using retinol I was perplexed by its drying effects. Then realised the 3rd ingredient is alcohol. Not worth it. Also has a hefty price tag.
