I was able to breast feed for a year after thinking in those early days that I'd have to give up because it was so painful. I was able to wean off these after a few weeks once things had calmed down. Would purchase again for next baby.

After the first 3 days of breastfeeding my baby my nipples were cracked, bleeding, sore as hell eeurgh, then someone got me these beautys! Not only did it help protect my nipples from any further damage from my daughter's suckling, but it gave them time to heal and helped urge my bubba's mouth to open more while feeding, which once my nips had healed enough to try feeding again au natural (about 3/4 days), feeding my bubba was soooo much easier and far far more productive. Thank goodness for them, they are a brilliant buy, if you are having a baby soon, or you are already feeding a baby and having problems with sore nipples, well this is a definite must! I now buy a set of these for every baby shower I attend!

I had been using another brand which was thicker but found these to be easier to wean baby from due to them being a thinner shield. They still protected my nipples until baby and I learnt how to latch correctly. I was comfortable using these and would do so again. Easy to clean and sterilise- do with bottles or pumping items.

So when I started having trouble with the second, I knew I had to get onto of the problem before it got really bad. Someone suggested I try nipple shields and although I was sceptical, I bought these. They changed my whole breastfeeding experience. I was able to get through the painful stage (when baby is young and doesn't latch properly) while protecting my nipples. Baby didn't have any trouble drinking when I was using them and is now a very healthy 9 month old and I no longer dread breastfeeding.

I was measured in hospital which allowed me to find a good fit, although it seems I’m between sizes which is a bit annoying. They are challenging to get in place, and bub often knocks them off despite suction and applying breast milk to try to make them stick.

She grew so accustomed to the plastic feeling in her mouth that she could not attach naturally. The lactation consultant recommended that we use a medela nipple shield to help with the process of getting her to latch. This worked well!

My bubs had latch-on difficulties too but this didn’t really help me personally, instead practice and persistence did. For sore nipples, I found it easier to apply nipple creams too. The silicone will also yellow over time. For sizing, I used the helpful medela guide.

I used these for bubs first breastfeed as he couldn’t latch straight on but with the help of the shield he was able to. While I exclusively pump every now and then he will have a breast feed and we still use these. They are thin enough that bub is still able to stimulate the letdown and I find it also stops my letdown from being to much for him. Storage container they come with is great too

They are a bit of a challenge to put on at first, but once you get the hang of it goes in smoothly. They are a thin material, and have a gap to maximise skin contact with baby which is great. I found them a pain to clean/sterilize/dry every single time, but if it helps to maintain breastfeeding to fix short term problems it’s worth it. It didn’t resolve our problem but did give me confidence that I had tried everything.

I found them easy to use (once you get the hang of it!), quite comfy on, and easy to clean. The only downside was the yellow storage case - the hinge part snapped on every one I had. Not a big deal as I just stored the shields in a clean container between uses. I do wish they were a little more accessible in smaller towns as well - my local stockists only carry one size. Overall a wonderful product - I know shield use is often frowned upon by some people, but I wouldn’t have had successful breastfeeding journeys without these shields, so I think they definitely have their place for some people.

The midwives gave me a medela breast shield to try whilst in hospital and it helped me to continue our breastfeeding journey where I would have given up. The instructions recommend to wet them with breast milk prior to help them stick however I found this caused them to slip around more. On a dry nipple, these work great and we are still using them and exclusively breastfeeding 5 months on.

Found although they helped the breast feeding path, they didn’t tend to stay on that well, appear to need a larger breast to keep them on, and not slide off. Found the case handy to have to store, as being so thin and light – it could be very easy to lose these shields in a house.
